AND THE WEEKEND OF BLACKPOOL PRIDE...
 
 
The Blackpoool Same-Sex Dance Festival and the ESSDA European Championships will take place over the same weekend as the Blackpool Pride Festival, all under one giant roof in the Winter Gardens. The theme of this year's Blackpool Pride is DANCE to celebrate the extraordinary combination of the ESSDA European Same-Sex Dance Championships and the weekend long Blackpool LGBT Pride Festival. COMPETITION CATEGORIES
 
 
BALLROOM LATIN SHOWDANCE

  - Open Men's Ballroom
  - Open Women's Ballroom
  - Senior Men's Ballroom
  - Senior Women's Ballroom

  - Open Men's Latin
  - Open Women's Latin
  - Senior Men's Latin
  - Senior Women's Latin

  - Showdance Couples
  - Showdance Teams

Open categories are for adults (16 years + on the day of the competition). Seniors are 80 years + of combined age (in full years and with the youngest partner 35 years +). Showdance Teams shall consist of a minimum of 8 dancers.
 
 
COMPETITION CLASSES
 
 
A class - (European Championship) couples with advanced experience
B class - (pre-championship) couples with experience at a high level
C class - (intermediate) couples with intermediate experience
D class - (novice) couples who are just beginning
Nb. Showdance competitions will be danced as a single class with all couples / teams dancing together.

ELEGIBILITY FOR EUROPEAN CHAMPIONSHIP TITLES
 
 

In order to be eligible to be awarded the title of European Champion, the highest ranking couple in each A Class competition and showdance competitions above shall comply with one of the following requirements: a) both partners shall hold a European Passport (or other official documentation of European citizenship); or b) one partner shall hold a European Passport Passport (or other official documentation of European citizenship) and the other partner, not holding a European Passport, shall be able to demonstrate habitual and continuous residence in an European Country for a period of not less than one year prior to the date of the competition; or c) both partners are not holding a European Passport (or other official documentation of European citizenship) but are able to demonstrate habitual and continuous residence (home address) in an European Country for a period of not less than two years prior to the date of the competition. In the event that the highest ranking couple does not fulfill the criteria above, it shall be ascertained whether the second highest ranking couple complies with the criteria and so forth. For the purposes of the eligibility criteria, “European” shall mean at least one of the following Countries: Albania, Andorra, Armenia, Austria, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Belgium, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Croatia, Cyprus, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Georgia, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Iceland, Israel, Ireland, Italy, Kazakhstan, Latvia, Liechtenstein, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, Moldova, Monaco, Montenegro, the Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Russia, San Marino, Serbia, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, The Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia, Turkey, Ukraine, the United Kingdom. In relation to Showdance Teams, to be eligible to be awarded the title of European Champions, half plus one of the dancers shall hold an European Passport (or other official documentation of European citizenship). All couples, regardless of nationality, will be elegible for Blackpool titles.

 
 
PHOTOGRAPHY AND FILMING
 
  The Blackpool Same-Sex Dance Festival and the ESSDA European Championships may be photographed and/or filmed and by entering participants agree to be photographed and/or filmed for use in all media and publicity. In the event that participants do not wish to be photographed or filmed their participation in the competition is not possible. No filming or photography is permitted without the permission of the organisers.
